Mientje Dekker. That's what the writing on the back says. It actually says "Tante Mientje Dekker" which means "Aunt". Photographer H.H. Roelse from Middelburg, Zeeland Province in The Netherlands, must have seen character in her. With a determent look she almost pierces through the camera into the world of today.
It's good she doesn't know what is going on. History is repeating itself, and where we said "Never again" it begins all over again.
Together with others of the same family, she came to me via Germany, our neighbours. How she ended up there? Don't know. But now it is time for her to come "home" and with my help I'm going to find out more, will find her Ahnen chart, and make her no longer anonymous. The question will be: is Piet Dekker her husband? Her brother? All questions for a few hours or days work.
